Overview

The Institute for Scalable Scientific Data Management (ISSDM) is a collaboration between Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) and the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC).  The ISSDM promotes  LANL/UCSC research collaborations that will lead to external joint funding opportunities and foster long-term relationships with collaborators.  The current focus of these collaborations is  on research in Storage Systems, Knowledge Management, Human Computation and  Visual Exploration & Analysis  of Cosmology. The Institute also provides retention and revitilization activities for existing LANL staff including allowing LANL staff to pursue advanced Computer Science  degrees, take graduate level computer science classes, mentor students, and teach classes and seminars.

The Systems Research Lab (SRL) and the Institute for Scalable Data Management (ISSDM) co-sponsor the annual SRL/ISSDM Research Symposium and UCSC Systems Oktoberfest, held at the Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC).  The two-day Symposium provides an opportunity to learn about the research of the SRL and ISSDM, interact with SRL and ISSDM faculty, graduate students and affiliated researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), and discuss future directions and collaborative research projects at UCSC and LANL.
