Annual Research Symposium

The Annual Research Symposium and UCSC Systems Oktoberfest is held at the Baskin School of Engineering (SOE) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). The Symposium provides an opportunity to learn about research at the Center for Research in Open Source Software (CROSS), interact with CROSS faculty, graduate students and members of industry and government, and discuss future directions and collaborative research projects at the SOE. The focus of CROSS includes high-impact research with potential of evolving into successful open-source software projects. Current projects span programmable storage systems and devices, data management in autonomous vehicles, alternative number formats, and secure, real-time sharing of cancer gene information. Prior to 2016, the Research Symposium and Systems Oktoberfest was sponsored by the UCSC/LANL Institute for Scalable Scientific Data Management (ISSDM) and the Systems Research Lab (SRL). A traditional highlight of the annual event is the Oktoberfest barbeque featuring authentic German food and drink prepared by Chefs Scott Brandt and Carlos Maltzahn.
